December - Wedding

A December wedding in Bristol for some friends of mine. It was a lovely day, full of laughter and fun. Shooting this late in the year is a real challenge for a photographer as you are always chasing the light but we got some great shots and I even had a chance to set up a photo booth in the evening.

December - Private Portrait

I confess, I'm a people watcher, which makes my job such a joy. One of the things I absolutely love about photographing families is watching the way that siblings interact, being able to capture that is the challenge I adore.

December - Private Portrait

There's something incredibly special about 4 generations of a family coming together. Before Christmas I shot a wonderful session with a family of 13 whose ages ranged across 90 years. Sessions like these are great because there are so many connections between family members to capture. I hired a great studio in Southborough for this shoot because it would have been a bit of a squeeze in mine. It's a great space and we were all made very welcome.

Inside Out Garden Ornaments - business photography

Before the snow arrived, I took a trip out to Wall Crouch to a wonderful, treasure trove of a business called Inside Out Garden Ornaments. It is crammed full of lovely statues, urns and figures to buy for your garden. I spent great couple of hours wandering around shooting photos for their website and went away with loads of ideas for things I'd like to fill my garden with.

Private Portrait - November 2010

O the joys of being 5! I spent a lovely afternoon with some great friends chasing their son around the garden TRYING to get him to stand still for 5 minutes. It was lots of fun and I think the energy really comes across.

Haywards Butchers - business photography

For all you foodies out there, I have had the best job for the last few months, photographing for our local butcher in Tonbridge. Haywards is a family-run butchers, which is committed to supplying great quality meat to its customers - I should know, I'm one of them.
It's been a great experience photographing all the wonderful meat that Haywards supplies, and then getting to cook it afterwards. I have learned about all sorts of cuts of meat and discovered a love of Ox tail - got any good recipes anyone?

Bonjour Baby Music - Halloween Party 2010

I had a lovely session at this great music class in Tunbridge Wells. The children were really relaxed and loved singing lots of French songs with their mums and dads - and they all looked SO cute in their costumes.

My friends are so clever. Look what they did!
This gorgeous girl is nearly 5 weeks old and I couldn't resist taking some photos between feeds and sleeps. Hers, not mine.

Business portrait - October 2010

Another business portrait this week. Sue-Mee Maudsley is a fashion designer, stylist and personal shopper. I have had experience of Sue-Mee's talents as she de-cluttered my wardrobe for me a week or so ago and did a great job at making me feel like I have a style again.

Prize portrait - October 2010

I recently offered a portrait as a prize for a photography competition in Playground magazine. I had a lovely couple of hours at the winner's home photographing her and her children. I took along my vintage Rolleicord as an experiment, to try and capture something a little different, it's not an easy task to photograph children with a camera that has no auto focus or exposure! I guess we're all a little spoiled these days with the technology we use. It turned out to be a great success and we were all delighted with the results.

Business portrait - October 2010

Laura Duret loves vintage.
She loves vintage so much that she has based her business around it. Laura currently sells vintage clothing, organises Vintage evenings and is setting up a bespoke service to help clients rediscover their inner glamour, all under the name of Powder Room Vintage.
She looked beautiful in this vintage dress and the space where she houses her pop-up boutique (above Panache in Tunbridge Wells) was a wonderful place to photograph.

Style Savvy workshop - September 2010

A couple of weeks ago I had a great evening at Hotel du Vin in Tunbridge Wells. I went along to shoot Sue-Mee Maudsley's Style Savvy workshop. Each of the guests brought along 3 items of their clothing and Sue-Mee showed them how to style it for this season. It was a great evening and fascinating to watch Sue-Mee at work, she really knows her stuff.

Private Portrait - September 2010

Getting four people to jump at the same time, pull a smile and not knock each other out is nigh on impossible. Which is why I love white backgrounds and photoshop jiggery pokery, they really help to make and fun family photo.

Sarah and Ian - August 2010

It is SO tough choosing the images to use from any wedding. I want to put them all up here and really let them tell the story of the day as I saw it. However, there is not the time, nor the space for that so I have decided on these three - I hope you get an idea of what a lovely and happy day these two shared.

New studio and the first shoot - July 2010

It's been all go here recently with lots of exciting work in progress and I am pleased to be able to announce that my new studio is up and running at last!

It's a wonderful space, built professionally and at a great price by Shane of Just Magic buildings. I would highly recommend his work

The very first session I did was with my family, we all got together and I took some photos of us all for my mum and dad's birthday present - a great way to christen the space.

To celebrate this exciting new development I am thrilled to be offering 10 studio sessions at 20% discount on both a studio session and the prints ordered. Contact me via www.janetpenny.com to make the most of this offer.

Website images - July 2010

I first visited Cherry Gardens Organic Farm last year, to shoot some pictures for Playground magazine. This time round I returned to take some more for Cherry Gardens upcoming website. The farm is a great place, full of gorgeous looking fruit, veg and flowers with the opportunity to pick your own. The farm shop is crammed full of organic delights from the farm and further afield.
I will be going back again in September to photograph more delicious produce but until then, feast your eyes on these two pics.

Pinhole workshops - July 2010

Two Fridays of pinhole workshops coming up. I love these days, they are so full of the unexpected. This time round we will be making large pinholes using 120 film, to give the students an idea of the process behind this (last time we used photo paper). Looking forward to it

Playground Magazine - June 2010

I spent such a calm and tranquil morning at Dorte's sewing class in Mayfield, I didn't want to leave. See the results here, or better still, grab a copy of the new issue of Playground magazine and see it in the flesh.

Wedding photography - May 2010

My second wedding and I'm beginning to get addicted to them. It's so wonderful to be such an integral part of someone's special day. This wedding was a very intimate affair, just six of us, including the bride and groom but so full of emotion. What's great for me is that I'm really finding my stride with the images I take. The combination of colour digital and black & white film is a real winner and adds something extra to the images.

Book cover - 2010

I was thrilled to find out that one of my images has been used on a book cover by Random House.
Looks like a good book too. Given that I LOVE reading, this is the best news for me.

Private Portrait - May 2010

I love shooting on location, especially when the location is as beautiful as this and with so much meaning to the people I'm photographing. We had great fun riding from one lovely spot to another.
6 adults, 7 children, 3 dogs and a herd of cattle. Oh, and some rain. Now that's what I call a portrait session!

Private Portrait - April 2010

Kids love to be active, so a great way to get good photos of them is to play on this fact. Jumping, high kicks, gymnastics of any kind all portray that energy that children always seem to have and they look fun too.
